Rafael Klatchkin

1907–1987

Born in Volkovysk (now Belarus), singer and lyricist Rafael Klatchkin immigrated to Mandatory Palestine in 1921 and joined the Habima Theatre in 1928, after it, too, relocated to Palestine. In addition to his influence on the stage, Klatchkin acted in many popular Israeli films, including Chalutzim (1933), the first Israeli sound film. Klatchkin continued to act in a variety of Israeli films well into the 1970s.
