Rivke Rubin

1906–1987

Yiddish writer and critic Rivke Rubin was born in Minsk and studied literature at the Minsk Pedagogical Institute and the Belorussian Academy of Sciences. From 1934, Rubin taught Yiddish literature at the Moscow Pedagogical Institute and published critical studies on Sholem Aleichem, Mendele Moyker-Sforim, and Y. L. Peretz. Many of Rubin’s articles and stories were published in the journal Sovetish heymland, whose editorial board she joined in 1961. She ultimately resigned from the periodical because of its anti-Israel stance.
