The Name

Aharon Megged (born Greenberg) was born in Wloclawek, Poland, and went as a child to Palestine, where his father was a teacher. He lived on kibbutz Sdot Yam, served as cultural attaché in London from 1968 to 1971, and was writer-in-residence at Oxford and Haifa universities. He served as president of the Israeli branch of PEN from 1980 to 1987 and was a founder and editor of the literary journal Masa. He was a novelist, short-story writer, playwright, and translator.
