Yoram Taharlev

b. 1938

The poet, songwriter, and author Yoram Taharlev is one of Israel’s most prolific and versatile writers. His songs are a fixture at public events, from ceremonies to holidays to dedications to song contests. Some of those songs are personal and draw on his memories of the kibbutz where he grew up; others cover universal themes, such as friendship, family, love of country. Taharlev majored in philosophy at Tel Aviv University, and received a lifetime achievement award from BarIlan University, a career capstone. His vast, diverse body of work includes pop songs, children’s songs, comedic stage shows, and secular readings of Jewish religious texts.
