Yehiel Mohar

1921–1969

Poet and lyricist Yehiel Mohar (also known as Mar) grew up in Berlin and immigrated to Palestine in 1937. There he helped to found Kibbutz Dovrat and established himself as a prolific writer of both poetry, which he published under the name Yehiel Mar, and popular songs, which he published as Mohar. He collaborated with composer Moshe Wilensky on some of the most well-known Israeli folk songs, including “Hora Mamtera” (Sprinkler Hora) and “Mul Har Sinai” (Facing Mount Sinai).
