Pinḥas Sadeh
Born in Lemberg (today Lviv), Pinḥas Sadeh and his family immigrated to Palestine in 1934, and he grew up in Tel Aviv. Despite receiving little formal education past primary school, Sadeh became an accomplished and respected writer, known for his spare phrasing and prophetic air in a variety of literary modes. Following the publication of his autobiographical and mystical novel Life as a Parable, he attracted something of a cult following, especially among young adults. In the 1960s and 1970s, Sadeh’s personal life attracted a great deal of popular attention, and a 2014 Israeli television series in part chronicles his life.
