Aharon Almog

1931–2021

Writer Aharon Almog was born to a Yemenite family that had been living in Tel Aviv since the nineteenth century. Although his grandfather was a founder of the Yemenite Hatikvah neighborhood, Almog’s father, a secular Jew, left it behind. Almog published his first poems in 1951 and by the end of the decade had also begun to publish short stories. His oeuvre, at once ironic and reflective, treats the everyday of Almog’s life and his Yemenite milieu.
