Mozes Henriquez Pimentel
The Sephardic Dutch mathematician and tax officer Mozes Henriquez (Henriques) Pimentel worked at the Department of Finance of the Netherlands, taught at the Technical Academy in The Hague, and served as a consultant for life insurance policy at the Dutch Department of the Interior. Apart from publishing in his professional field, Henriquez Pimentel also wrote extensively on matters of history and politics. A member of both the Dutch Society of Literature and the Association of Jewish Literature and History in The Hague, he published on topics ranging from the history of the Portuguese Jewish community and its synagogue in The Hague to an overview of Jewish folk life. In 1891, Henriquez Pimentel wrote a series of political articles in the Nieuw Israëlietisch Weekblad about the increasingly racially oriented antisemitism of his time and about his support for the work of the Alliance Israélite Universelle.
