Abraham Baer
1834–1894
Born in Filehne, Prussia (now Wielen, Poland), Abraham Baer worked as a teacher and cantor in various communities in the Prussian province of Posen, eventually settling in Gothenburg, Sweden. Baer became the city’s chief cantor in 1860, thereafter publishing works for choir and organ. His collection Baal T’fillah remained the principal repertoire for generations of European cantors, compiling the yearly synagogue liturgy arranged according to various rites.
