Joseph Buloff

1899–1985

Born in Vilna, actor Joseph Buloff began his career with the renowned Yiddish theater ensemble the Vilner Trupe. After marrying actress Luba Kadison in 1925, Buloff and his wife performed together in Vienna and Bucharest before immigrating to the United States in 1926. There, Buloff began a professional relationship with Maurice Schwartz, director of the Yiddish Art Theatre, and Buloff and his wife ran the Folks Theatre. Buloff and Kadison toured Argentina in 1949 with a successful Yiddish version of Death of a Salesman. His final role was in Warren Beatty’s 1981 film Reds.
