Testament (Sarajevo)

The deed of will which is thus worded. In the community of Israel we have faithfully declared that we the undersigned are witnesses that it is a true and firm fact that the deceased lady, Sra. Rachel, the divorced wife of the master, the Pious R. Abraham Molina, may God preserve him, when she was lying on her sickbed, in full lucidity, having fallen ill with the sickness from which she died—as all the lives of Israel pass away—she called us and told us to be faithful witnesses of all that I tell you.

“If the Lord, may He be Blessed, should summon me, I entrust to the court, may God protect it, and to the master, the honorable rabbi Avraham Pardo, may God protect and preserve him, all that I leave behind, and as my last will, if they come asking what I leave to my daughter, I disinherit her and leave her only five coins, and the rest will remain in the possession of the court, and it being the time that she wishes to marry, then after she marries, the court will give it all to my daughter, and if however it be that my daughter will pass away before she marries, then three parts of my property shall be given to my brother, the Honorable R. Isaac Tubi, may the Lord preserve him and protect him, and one part to the Honorable R. David Baruch, may the Lord protect and preserve him, to recite the Kaddish for me; and I leave a velvet sayo coat [a wrap-around outer garment] with its silver buttons for the daughter of my cousin who is called Esther de Yehud Payon, and I leave one hundred ten timinikos¹ of which sixty will be scattered over me and fifty they will give to my uncle, the Honorable R. Abraham Curiel, may the Lord protect and preserve him, and I also leave one copper washing bowl for the burial society and will pay from my clothing the rental of the house and any debts I may owe, and I wish this last will to be valid and not otherwise, it being made hereby in my lucidity and my rationality at the beginning of my ailment.”

And as evidence of the truth we, the undersigned witnesses, have signed and we have written our names here, in Bosnia Sarajevo, on this day, 22 Elul 5432 from the Creation [1672], and it is firm and abiding.

Sitting together as three, this deed of will was brought before us, and since they testified before us that this is the signature of their hands, which we have copied, letter for letter, word for word, and we confirmed it and upheld it as appropriate.
