Rachel Molina

d. ca. 1672

As she lay on her sickbed in Elul 1672, Rachel, the former (divorced) wife of Abraham Molina, was visited by representatives of the Jewish community who recorded her last will and testament. In this will, Rachel left her daughter only five coins, entrusting the rest of her estate to the court until her daughter’s marriage. Should her daughter die unmarried, Rachel stipulated, the inheritance would pass to Rachel’s brother. The will includes several other bequests and also makes provision for a rabbi to recite the Kaddish (memorial prayer for the dead) after Rachel’s death. Rachel was a member of the Jewish community of Sarajevo.
