Anna Ticho was an Israeli artist who captured the urban and natural landscape of Jerusalem over the course of seven decades. Born in Brno, Moravia, Ticho moved as a teenager to Vienna, where she began her artistic studies. In 1912, she married her cousin, an ophthalmologist named Abraham Albert Ticho; the couple immigrated to Palestine the same year, settling in Jerusalem. Ticho’s precise, detailed artwork captures the intricate, natural textures of the hills surrounding Jerusalem. Among her contributions to the arts and culture of Israel was the Bezalel School of Arts and Crafts in Jerusalem, a major hub for Israeli artists, which she cofounded. She also donated her home and artwork to the Israel Museum. In 1980, Ticho was awarded the Israel Prize for her lifelong dedication to the arts in Israel.
