Yitsḥak Dov Ber ben Tsvi Hirsh
d. 1802
Believed to be the grandson of Tsvi Hirsh of Nadvurna (Nadwórna, today Nadvirna in Ukraine; d. 1802), a disciple of the Ba‘al Shem Tov, Yitsḥak Dov Ber participated in the trend of compiling Hasidic stories into anthologies. Not much is known about him, although some believe that he used the pseudonym Ḥayim Abraham Daytshman of Saroka to publish other works. His book Emunas tsadikim (Faith of the Tsadikim) was republished as Kehal ḥasidim he-ḥadash (The New Collection of Hasidic Stories, 1902) and was the source for many of Martin Buber’s Hasidic tales.
