Shemuel Bunim

1919–1998

Shemuel Bunim was an award-winning Israeli actor, theatrical director, and artist. Born in Saratov, Russia, he spent most of his childhood in Kaunas, Lithuania. He and his family emigrated to pre-state Israel in 1934, where Bunim eventually became a member of Kibbutz Yakum. His extensive career in Israeli and world theater included serving for many decades as the resident director of Israel’s Cameri Theater. He continued to paint and he designed a series of painted panels for Hadassah’s Ein Kerem Hospital.
