Herman Wouk

1915–2019
Born in New York, American novelist and playwright Herman Wouk served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Many of his works of historical fiction drew on his wartime experiences, incorporating Jewish characters and themes from Europe, Israel, and the United States. Wouk received a Pulitzer Prize in 1952, and his works have been widely translated.
