Chaim Potok
1929–2002
Born in New York City, Chaim Potok was a novelist, ordained rabbi, teacher, and the former editor in chief of the Jewish Publication Society. His best-selling novels often explore the conflict between Jewish heritage and secularism. Also the author of nonfiction works, children’s literature, a memoir, and novellas, Potok received the National Jewish Book Award, the Athenaeum Award, the National Foundation for Jewish Culture Achievement Award, and the O. Henry Award.
