Avraham Abbas

1912–1958

Born in Damascus, Avraham Abbas moved to Palestine in 1929. In the 1930s and during World War II, he assisted Jewish immigrants from Syria, working for the Histadrut and then undercover during the war to bring in some fifteen thousand Jews. From 1955 to 1958, Abbas served in the Knesset in the Labor Party. He also wrote about Sephardic Jewish issues in the journal Shevet ve-‘am.
