Eric Werner

1901–1988

Born in Austria, Eric Werner was a musicologist specializing in sacred music. Werner taught at the Saarbrücken Conservatory, as well as the Breslau Jewish Theological Seminary. Upon immigrating to America in 1937, he taught at the Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati and later founded its School of Sacred Music in Manhattan. Werner also established the musicology department at Tel Aviv University and served as its chair.
