Sites of Jewish or New Christian Residence in Early Modern Western Europe

1500–1750

Map of Europe with cities labeled in English and noted by large or small red dots, with a legend explaining that small dots are for smaller Jewish communities and larger dots for major Jewish communities.

Following the expulsion of Jews from the Iberian Peninsula in the late fifteenth century, Jews settled in areas of Europe that promoted religious tolerance. Others concealed their identities as New Christians.
