Y. Osherovich
1879–ca. 1937
Born in Ponevezh (Panevezys), Lithuania, into a working-class family, Y. (most likely Elieh) Osherovich became active in the Jewish labor movement, initially among Zionist socialist groups and then in the Bund, where he worked until 1918. In 1919 he joined the Communist Party. He worked as a Yiddish journalist and editor of Communist newspapers. Osherovich was elected to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Belorussia. He was also one of the first organizers of Soviet Yiddish writers in Belorussia. He was arrested in 1937, and may have perished in the Gulag. The editors believe that Y. Osherovich is the author of the work included in this volume.
