Joseph Reider
Born in Rozhishch, Russian Empire (today Rozhyshche Ukraine), Joseph Reider studied at the University of Göttingen in Germany before immigrating to the United States in 1904. Settling in New York City, he graduated from City College in 1910, then moved on to Dropsie College in Philadelphia to complete his doctoral work. After earning his doctorate in 1913, he became professor of biblical philology and a librarian at Dropsie, maintaining these positions until his retirement shortly before his death. Reider lectured on topics including Hebrew grammar and ancient manuscripts, and contributed to a number of journals and Encyclopedias during his career, both in English and Hebrew. He also worked on the publishing committee of the Jewish Publication Society.
