Eugen Fuchs
1856–1923
Born in Koschentin, Prussia (today Koszęcin, Poland), Eugen Fuchs studied law in Breslau, ultimately obtaining a doctorate in 1883 from Leipzig University. A property lawyer, he was a board member of the Berlin Bar Association and, from 1915, editor of the Juristischen Wochenschrift. In 1893, Fuchs cofounded the Centralverein deutscher Staatsbürger jüdischen Glaubens, a liberal organization that advocated for acceptance of Jews in German society and combated antisemitism; he served as its chair from 1917 to 1919.
