Avraham Kahana

1874–1946

Born in Skomorochy, near Zhitomir, in the Russian Empire (today in Ukraine), Avraham Kahana was a self-educated historian and biblical scholar. He worked as an editor on critical editions of the Bible, including apocrypha and pseudepigraphal books from Greek manuscripts. He immigrated in 1923 to Palestine, where he directed the Shaar Zion Library (today Beit Ariela Shaar Zion) in Tel Aviv and taught at the Levinsky Teachers’ Seminary.
