  Ilya Kabakov
                Russian artist Ilya Kabakov was named by ArtNews as one of the “ten greatest living artists” (2000). He has produced a wide range of paintings, drawings, and installations, many of which are autobiographical and/or explore the visual culture of the Soviet Union. A member of the prestigious Union of Soviet Artists, Kabakov was also a founding member of the Sretensky Boulevard Group and the Moscow Conceptualists, “unofficial” artists’ groups centered in Moscow. The Man Who Flew into Space from His Apartment is an example of the more than 150 installations he has created. In 2004, Kabakov became the first living artist to have an exhibition at the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg. He is based today in New York.
