Rami M. Shapiro

b. 1951

Born in Springfield, Massachusetts, Rami M. Shapiro is a poet whose liturgical works are widely read in religious settings. Influenced by Zen Buddhism, Shapiro was ordained as a Reform rabbi in 1981. He was the founding rabbi of Temple Beth Or in Miami, and served as senior rabbi of Metivta, a center for contemplative Judaism in Los Angeles. Shapiro directs the One River Foundation in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, promoting religious literacy and interfaith dialogue.
