Nehama Leibowitz

1905–1997

Nehama Leibowitz was a biblical scholar and interpreter. Born in Latvia, she grew up in Berlin and immigrated to Israel in 1930. A professor at Tel Aviv University, Leibowitz was also renowned for her classes on the weekly Torah portion that were broadcast on the radio. Her commentaries on Torah readings were published in their entirety and she received the Israel Prize in 1956.
