Amos Funkenstein

1937–1995

Born in Tel Aviv, Amos Funkenstein taught Jewish history at the University of California, Berkeley and was the Maser Chair in History and Philosophy of Science at Tel Aviv University. The recipient of the Israel Prize for History, he devoted his scholarship to the study of Judaism, medieval intellectualism, and science.
