Shmuel Hasfari

b. 1954

Shmuel Hasfari is a playwright, screenwriter, and film director. He was born in Ramat Gan to a religious family, but was drawn to secular Judaism as an adolescent. In the early 1980s, Hasfari cofounded the Teatron Pashut (Simple Theater), which performed five plays, among them his Kidush (1990). Hasfari has written and directed more than twenty plays, including for children. He also has been the artistic director of the Akko Festival and the Cameri Theater.
