David Mamet

b. 1947

David Mamet grew up in Chicago and attended Goddard College. He is a playwright, screenwriter, producer, and director, whose works often deal with the American experience and are noted for their crisp dialogue. Several of his plays have been adapted as films. Among Mamet’s honors are the Tony Award, the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters Award for Literature, and nominations for the Golden Globe Award, the Writers Guild Award, and the Academy Award.
