Eli Amir
b. 1937
Eli Amir was born in Baghdad. He arrived in Israel at age thirteen and lived at Kibbutz Mishmar Haemek. In the 1960s, Amir was the government adviser on Arab affairs, and he also has been active in the Jewish Agency. Amir’s first book, Tarnegol kaparot (The Scapegoat) was published in 1983, was translated into several languages, and won several awards, including the Youth Immigration Jubilee Prize (1983) and the Jewish Literature Prize (Mexico, 1985). Tanegol kaparot is reprinted in Am hasefer—Proza Israelit (2010).
