Anita Lobel

b. 1934

Anita Lobel was born in Kraków, and was rescued by a Polish woman until being sent to a concentration camp. After World War II, she was reunited with her family in Sweden and came to New York in 1952. Lobel is a writer and artist who has created picture books and written fantasy stories. She was honored as a National Book Award finalist for No Pretty Pictures, the story of her childhood.
