Lois Lowry

b. 1937

Lois Lowry was born in Hawaii. Because her father served as a military officer, she grew up in a variety of locations, including Japan. Lowry has written for children and young adults, dealing with subjects such as the Holocaust, death, and adoption. She was very affected by the deaths of her sister and then her son. Among other awards, Lowry has received the Newbery Medal twice. She lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
