David Shapiro

b. 1947

David Shapiro grew up in Newark, New Jersey, and is a poet, literary critic, translator, and art historian. He teaches art history at William Paterson University, and has published more than twenty volumes of poetry and works of criticism. He has received the Gotham Book Mart Award, an Ingram Merrill Foundation fellowship, the Morton Dauwen Zabel Award, and several grants from the National Endowment for the Arts.
