Lara Vapnyar

b. 1971

Lara Vapnyar, who was born in the Soviet Union and now lives in the United States, is the author of short stories portraying the lives of Russian immigrants in New York City. These stories have appeared in several magazines as well as in a published collection. Vapnyar, also a novelist, is the recipient of the National Foundation for Jewish Culture’s 2004 Prize for Jewish Fiction by Emerging Writers and the O. Henry Prize.
