Aleksandr Melikhov

b. 1947

Aleksandr Melikhov (pen name of Aleksandr Meylakhs) is a Russian novelist, short story author, essayist, and critic. He was born in Rossosh, Voronezh, and spent much of his childhood in Kazakhstan. Trained in mathematics, he has written several novels in addition to numerous polemical essays on political extremism and nationalism. Among other awards, Melikhov received the 1993 Nabokov Prize of the St. Petersburg Writers’ Union and was shortlisted for the Russian Booker Prize in 2001.
