Péter Nádas
b. 1942
Novelist, short story writer, playwright, and essayist, Péter Nádas was born in Budapest. His mother died during his childhood, and his father committed suicide. In 1961 he began his studies in journalism and photography, and later worked as a photojournalist for the magazine Pest Megyei Hírlap. Nádas lived in Berlin for a few years, where he was elected a member of the Akademie der Künste. He has earned the Prize for Hungarian Art (1989), the Kossuth Prize (1992), and the Kafka Prize for Literature (2003).
