Mark Helprin
b. 1947
Mark Helprin, who grew up in New York and the British West Indies (later serving in the British navy and the Israeli army), has written novels, collections of short stories, journalistic pieces (for The New Yorker and other publications), children’s books, and speeches for American politicians. Among Helprin’s awards are the National Jewish Book Award, the Prix de Rome, the PEN/Faulkner Award, and the 2001 Mightier Pen Award from the Center for Security Policy.
