Immanuel Aboab

1555–1628

Immanuel Aboab was born in Porto, Portugal, to a family of New Christians. After returning to Judaism in Italy, he served as rabbi of the Sephardic congregation in Venice, where he was very active in helping New Christians return formally to Judaism. He died in Jerusalem. His Nomologia, a defense of the Oral Law against heterodox tendencies, was published in Amsterdam a year after his death.
