Pinḥas Barukh Monselice
17th Century
Pinḥas Barukh bar Paltiyah Monselice was born in the first half of the seventeenth century into a learned, well-to-do extended Italian Jewish family. Relying on strong familial networks, he secured work as a preacher and scribe in Ferrara. His Tiferet baḥurim (Beauty of Young Men) is a pathbreaking guide for young bridegrooms, describing preparations for marriage, the wedding, and the proper way to have sexual relations with one’s wife. The work was prepared for publication in print but remained in manuscript until modern times, as did his biblical and talmudic commentaries.
