Judah Leib Kirchheim

d. 1632

Judah Loew (Leib) Kirchheim, born of a learned, respected family from Worms, one of the Jewish settlements of medieval Ashkenaz (Germany), took special interest in the local ritual customs of that community and composed his book of customs in order to preserve them—and to restore some that had already been lost—in the face of growing ritual uniformity of the early modern period.
