The Jewish Community of Tykocin

The community of Tykocin (Tiktin), in Poland, had authority over nearby smaller towns and villages. Its minute book covers the years 1621 to 1806, with its earlier documents discussing issues regarding the Council of the Four Lands and disputes between the Tykocin region and other communities in Poland. From 1673 to 1771, yearly entries deal primarily with intracommunity affairs: elections and nominations of officials, taxation, and communal institutions such as the synagogue and the bet midrash.
