The Jewish Community of Jerusalem

Although dated to 1730, the Haskamot ha-‘ir Yerushalayim (Regulations of the City of Jerusalem) most likely reflect others made by the leaders of the Jewish community of Jerusalem as early as the 1520s. As the original minute book of the community was lost, this fragmentary document was left to reflect the renaissance of the Jerusalem community in the sixteenth century and the work of its leaders in regulating the activities of community members in commerce, modesty, and behavior in the synagogue.
