Abraham Levie

ca. 1702–1785

Abraham Levie was born in the village of Hoorn, in a province in northern Holland. At some point before 1730, he settled in Amsterdam, where he engaged in business. Levie is mentioned as receiving communal honors in the local community pinkas (register). The extant manuscript of Levie’s travelogue was copied in 1764; it contains decorated title pages, maps, and tables. In the Yiddish travelogue, composed sometime around 1750, Levie describes his journey through central Europe to Italy between the years 1719 and 1723.
