Rachel Luis

d. 1737

Rachel Luis’s bequest of a Torah scroll to be purchased from her estate, together with her executor’s purchase of an entry for her in Shearith Israel’s memorial rolls (which is known from other sources), constituted a traditional means of perpetuating one’s own memory after death. Little else is known of Rachel’s life.
