Aaron ben David ha-Kohen
1501–1656
Aaron ben David ha-Kohen was a rabbi in Ragusa, now Dubrovnik. He studied in his native city and later in Venice, before returning to his hometown to assume the position of rabbi. In 1623, he was accused of ritual murder. Aaron’s sermons, collected as Zekan Aharon (The Beard of Aaron)—together with his grandfather’s sermons, Shemen ha-tov (The Goodly Oil), and a history of the martyrdom of Isaac Jeshurun—were published in Venice in 1657, after his death.
