David Hillman is renowned among Anglo Jewry for his exceptional stained-glass synagogue windows, including those he made for the impressive St. John’s Wood Synagogue and the Central Synagogue, both in London, as well as the Renanim Synagogue in Jerusalem. Born and raised in Glasgow, Hillman studied at London’s Royal College of Art. The son of a dayan, a religious judge, Hillman was himself a rabbinic scholar and infused his knowledge of Jewish sources into his elaborate, colorful designs. Hillman’s numerous windows depict biblical images and incorporate scriptural verses.
