Paul Schutzer was an American photojournalist who worked for Life magazine, chronicling historic events within the United States and abroad. Schutzer began experimenting with photography at age ten, and then studied painting and law before dedicating himself to photography in 1956 as part of the Life office in Washington, D.C. Over the course of his brief career, Schutzer photographed such important figures as Martin Luther King Jr., Richard Nixon, John F. Kennedy, and Fidel Castro. He documented an impressive array of historic events, including the construction of the Berlin Wall, the Algerian War, a major earthquake in Iran, and the Vietnam War. Schutzer’s life and career were tragically cut short by the photographer’s premature death while covering the Six-Day War.
