Anna Dorothea Lisiewska-Therbusch

Prussian-born Anna Dorothea Lisiewska-Therbusch one of the few female court painters in the eighteenth century. Her father was a Berlin portrait painter with connections to the royal court who taught his children to paint. Anna and her sister were considered child prodigies. In 1765, Lisiewska-Therbusch went to Paris, where she became a member of the Académie Royale. After her return to Berlin in 1769 she became court painter to Frederick II of Prussia and received commissions from Catherine II of Russia.
