James A. Sleeper

b. 1947

Born in Longmeadow, Massachusetts, political scientist James (also Jim) Sleeper has studied American civic culture and political life for several decades. After earning his doctorate in education at Harvard University in 1977, Sleeper began his career as a professor of urban studies, concentrating specifically on race relations in New York. He currently lectures at Yale University on American identity and the ties between journalism, liberalism, and democracy.
